Justice

Read 2 Chronicles 18:1 through 20:37

Thanks to modern DNA methods, many innocent people have been released from long prison sentences. When these stories make news headlines, many question our justice systems.

King Jehoshaphat understood the importance of godly justice. He appointed judges and exhorted them:

“Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery” (2 Chronicles 19:6–7).

We’ve all experienced injustices. Perhaps we have lost jobs or friends through harsh and unfair judgments, were blamed for things we did not do, or lost our reputations. At such times it can be hard to trust our just and merciful God. Such incidents challenge us to hand outcomes to God and examine our behavior. Do we also judge others unfairly? Are we willing to trust the Holy Spirit and speak boldly when we see injustice in our society?

Prayer Suggestion: Holy Spirit, give me courage to speak boldly when I encounter injustice.
